The Meaning Of Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese alternative medicine practice known as energy healing. “Reiki” is a Japanese term that translates as “Rei” (Universal Life Force) and “Ki” (Energy). They stand for ‘Universal Life Force Energy.’

It is a complementary health technique that permits energy flow to soothe your mind while healing and restoring your body for maximum health and well-being.
What Is The Origin Of Reiki?
Reiki is healing energy developed in Japan during the 1920s by Dr. Mikao Usui. Dr. Usui was a proponent of Reiki, a spiritual practice used as an alternative therapy for treating physical, emotional, and mental illnesses.
Usui began a 21-day practice on Mount Kurama called ‘Discipline of Prayer and Fasting’ in the early 1920s. According to popular belief, Usui invented Reiki over these 21 days.
In April 1922, he established the Gakkai to educate Reiki Ryoho and provide treatments in Harajuku, Aoyama, and Tokyo. It was so popular that the exterior of the building was littered with the shoes of people from all around.
In September 1923, there was a massive earthquake and fire, and the air was filled with the moans of the injured. Usui wanted to assist and went out every day, rescuing countless people.
As an adult, Usui is said to have traveled to various western nations, including the Americas, Europe, and China, as part of his ongoing studies. He studied history, medicine, Buddhism, Christianity, psychology, and Taoism, among other things.
During the final four years of his life, Usui traveled extensively around Japan, educating almost 2,000 new pupils. Usui only taught 16 Reiki Masters, including former navy officer Chujiro Hayashi.
Hayashi collaborated with Usui to comprehend and adjust his more significant corpus of healing techniques and teachings to make Reiki more acceptable to Westerners.
Hayashi established a Reiki clinic in Tokyo with Usui’s permission. Hawayo Takata, a first-generation Japanese-American, came to the clinic to treat several medical issues, including asthma.
Takata’s health recovered after a few months of dedicated care, and became a dedicated student. Takata introduced Reiki to Hawaii in 1937 and later to the mainland with Hayashi’s active assistance and support.
Takata practiced and taught Reiki for 40 years before beginning to teach Reiki masters, a total of 22. Reiki is currently practiced all around the globe, but not always in the classic style taught by Takata.
